But extracts from the bark of the cinnamon tree have also been used traditionally as medicine throughout the world.  Wonderful cinnamon benefits us in  many ways, it's an anti-inflammatory, lowers blood sugar and preserves food amongst others.  One of cinnamon health benefits are the extremely high content of antioxidants.  For instance one teaspoon of cinnamon has as much antioxidant capacity as a half cup of blue berries or a full cup of pomegrantate juice.

My family really enjoy their baked goodies.  We tend to enjoy our odd treat on the weekend, but I don't enjoy buying the highly processed sugary commercial cookies and biscuits so I decided to make my own healthy bars for those times when the munchies need to be satisfied.  These tend to hit the spot every time!

Slow cooked lamb shanks

We invited some friends for dinner this past Saturday. After much deliberation I decided to make slow cooked lamb shanks as this is the perfect dish for a cold winters evening. To compliment the slow cooked lamb shanks we had creamy mash, with roasted butternut, cauliflower, onions and carrots on the side.  If you are following a low carbohydrate compliant diet just omit the potatoe mash and substitute with low carb mashed turnips or creamy cauliflower mash.
